Our writers

Madonna magazine is the work of a team of contributors, which includes some of Australia’s best spiritual writers. Our regular contributors are listed below, but each edition also features articles from a range of writers across Australia.

Fr Chris Gleeson SJ

Chris is the editor of Madonna magazine, and author of a number of spirituality publications, including A Canopy of Stars – Some reflections for the journey (2003) and Releasing the Angel – Saluting all those who try to teach (2007). He is also the Australian Jesuit Province’s delegate for Ignatian Formation.

Margaret Mary Flynn

Margaret Mary is the acting Associate Editor of Madonna magazine, and has been contributing as a columnist since 2013. She is a spiritual director at Campion Centre for Ignatian Spirituality, and was previously coordinator for the Year of Grace in the Sandhurst Diocese. She is currently finishing her Master of Arts in Spirituality, specialising in Ignatian and Monastic spirituality, and Spirituality, Culture and History.

Fr Andrew Hamilton SJ

Andrew is the Editorial Consultant at Jesuit Communications. He writes regularly for Madonna magazine, as well as Australian Catholics and Eureka Street, while also working with Jesuit Social Services.

Rosie Hoban

Rosie is a freelance journalist and publicist, and full-time mother. Her profile interviews appear in each edition of the magazine.

Fr Edmund Campion

Edmund is a Sydney priest, writer, emeritus professor, historian and journalist. He is the author of numerous books, including Rockchoppers, A Place in the City, Catholic Voices and Great Australian Catholics, a collection of his pieces from Madonna.

Elizabeth Pike

Elizabeth works at the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry in Melbourne and is great demand as a speaker on spirituality from an indigenous perspective.

Sr Myree Harris RSJ

Myree is a Josephite Sister, and is the coordinator of the Gethsemane Community in Sydney. She works closely with the homeless and with people with disabilities.

Michael McGirr

Michael is a former publisher of Eureka Street and editor of Australian Catholics magazine, and is currently the Director of Faith and Mission at St Kevin’s College in Melbourne. His books include Unhinged Saints, Tim Winton: the writer and his work, Bypass: the story of a road, and The Lost Art of Sleep.

Clare Deignan

Clare is the assistant editor of Australian Catholics magazine, and a young mother.
