Crimson Promise
Thought I knew love until I met you,
Thought even love had its limits.
Pain in every essence of your being,
Hours upon hours on a cross,
Dishonoured, the living son of God.
But it just wasn't enough to stop you,
Just wasn't enough,
Because your love was far too strong.
Thought I knew endurance;
Temptation beyond what I could imagine,
The loving angels surrounding you as you died
Were prepared at any moment to save you from disgrace,
Lifting you up to a forgiving God
And eternity in heaven, no questions.
Yet as unbelievably selfless as you are
You saw my face,
The face of everyone living here
And beyond,
And you kept going to see
The lost become divine through salvation.
Though they spat on your face.
You walk beside me every day,
So calm, so unbelievably loving.
I feel a cross in between my collarbones
Shining with Piercing white light;
Your hand upon my shoulder
And your Crimson Promise.
No price was too great for you.
